When working in collections, you never know what you’re going to find. Monique’s experience was no different. Filling in gaps in the object records brought her into direct contact with some interesting textiles. Some of the more exciting things she handled were an ostrich shawl (Can you imagine – a shawl completely covered in ostrich feathers!!), a blanket that George Washington supposedly slept under for a few nights and a shoe. What’s so interesting about a shoe you ask? This particular shoe reportedly was worn on the foot of a young lady as she was escorted to an event by George Washington. Apparently, there is an unconfirmed rumor that he was courting the lady.
